Harry Potter Prequel?
Well, it's been a while since the last update however something interesting came up and I figure we're interested, right?

Jo Rowling has been asked by Waterstones to contribute a short piece of writing to go up for auction for the Dyslexia Society and has decided to give a short segment from the Potter world. She describes it as a prequel to the Potter books that involves both James Potter and Sirius Black.

The following is from her site "After playing around with a number of different ideas I decided to write a short (for me!) excerpt from a prequel to the Potter series. It is about 800 words long and the action takes place around 3 years before Harry is born. Although I did feel a bit like a relapsing addict as I sat down to write - the words poured from my pen with frightening ease - I am NOT working on a prequel. Indeed, I've written that clearly at the bottom of the card itself. I just thought that this was the best way to make money for two extremely worthwhile charities."

She says she's not writing a prequel but we can live in hope, right? :D

Post Book Release - A few words of warning
book 7 newsWell, it's official. The seventh book is out there and being read by millions around the globe. This is a time to be extra vigilant. I strongly suggest people avoid the forums if they do not wish to be spoiled. There is always the chance that we may get people joining simply to spoil this experience for others.

However I have full faith in our Moderators here in the Forest. Any issues you have on site about spoilers etc should be reported to a Moderator online at the time or an Admin.

The forum for discussing Book Seven is The White Tomb. No spoilers are allowed elsewhere on site. Please read the rules carefully.

Otherwise! Enjoy! :D

New York Times - Apology or Excuse?
book 7 newsWe have been informed by a TFF member that the New York Times has published another article denying that it has ruined the Harry Potter series for fans.

Having read it I can see that it is nothing more than a long list of excuses and nonsense.

They imply that they did not sign any contract with JK Rowling and therefore what they did was not illegal.

They'd give Rita and Dolores a run for their money any day!

If you'd like to post a comment on this article please go HERE

Thanks again to Marak for this. :)

JK Rowling's Room of Requirement opens on the eve of Deathly Hallows.
JKR official site newsThe door to Jo's Room of Requirement has opened once more to reveal a list of acknowledgements and thanks to those that have helped in any way with the Harry Potter series.

With less than twelve hours to wait now the spoilers are still coming thick and fast, though TFF is happy to announce it has remained a spoiler free zone.

We're on the final countdown now! :)

NY Times & The Baltimore Sun - Deathly Hallows review
book 7 newsIt gives me great sadness today to announce that the New York Times has posted a review of Deathly Hallows on their website. This review is apparently full of spoilers.

The NYT says they attained a copy of the book from a book store in New York.

Personally, I think it's a disgrace that this paper would make money and receive extra coverage through the spoiling of this book and in turn the series for the fans around the globe.

If, like me, you'd like to email your complaint to the paper about this the address is Letters@nytimes.com

Thankfully here on TFF we have so far been unspoiled. Thank you to all the members who have helped in the warnings about spoilers and let's try and keep it this way! There are less than two days now to the release! :)

EDIT - Some more information from a site member.

'The Baltimore Sun posted a review of Deathly Hallows on the 18th. Not only does it include two MAJOR spoilers, but they "explain" their ability to spoil this book for people across the US. "Editor's Note: The Sun obtained the book from a reader, who is a relative of a Sun reporter. The relative preordered the book from an online retailer and received it before the publication date. The Sun did not pay for the book" I think this is another one who could use a few thousand protest emails. Not that it wasn't within their rights to do it, they didn't steal the book, or anything. They just felt like they could take advantage of the situation.

To add your email of complaint the address is -mary.mccauley@baltsun.com

Thanks for that SorcererMarak

JKR's plea to Harry Potter Fans
JKR official site newsJK Rowling has made a diary entry on her official site in regards to the seventh and final book of the Harry Potter series.

We are almost there! As launch night looms, let's all, please, ignore the misinformation popping up on the web and in the press on the plot of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'd like to ask everyone who calls themselves a Potter fan to help preserve the secrecy of the plot for all those who are looking forward to reading the book at the same time on publication day. In a very short time you will know EVERYTHING! Writes Jo.

This comes just over two days before the release of the book at Midnight on the 21/07/07.

Not long to go! :D
